I spent the first two years fun jumping and now I want to help our DZ to grow the sport by passing along the knowledge and experience I have gained over the past couple years traveling and skydiving.

Les Gordon

Pilot

Les Gorden has been a pilot for nearly 45 years. He grew up in Independence and learned to fly at the local airports around Kansas City flying Aeronca Champs, C-150, C-172, C-182 and The Cherokee Six. Les went to the University of Central Missouri and was one of the first students to graduate from the flight program established there. He became a professional pilot in 1975 when he got a job flying freight in Wisconsin. This job is where he first flew a Beechcraft Twin Bonanza. Les went on to fly several heavy piston powered airplanes like the DC-3, C-46, DC-6, DC-7, and Convair 640. His airline career started in 1979 as a Convair 580 co-pilot with North Central Airlines. This job after 32 years and 3 airline mergers has turned into a Captain position on the Boeing 747 with Delta Airlines. Along the way Les has flown the DC-9, Boeing 727, and the Airbus A320 and accumulated 25,000 hours of flight time in all weather conditions and has taken him around the globe. In addition to his airline career, he has been an active member of the general aviation community as an owner of a Twin Bonanza and an aircraft mechanic. His vast experience makes him the perfect person for the Twin Bonanza Chief Pilot position at Skydive Kansas City.

Steve Gordon

Steve Gorden has been a pilot for nearly 16 years. He grew up in Lee’s Summit and learned to fly from his Dad at the Fort Scott airport. During this time he helped his father, Les, restore his Beechcraft Twin Bonanza. Steve also attended the University of Central Missouri and earned a degree in Aviation Maintenance Management while continuing to fly. He was one of the first pilots to fly for Skydive Kansas City in 1999-2000 flying over 500 hours of skydiving operations. Steve was hired into the airline business in 2000 by Mesa Airlines flying the Beechcraft 1900. He worked for Mesa for 6 years and finished as an Embraer 145 Captain. Steve moved on to Midwest Airlines and flew the Boeing 717 for 2 years until his dream job with Northwest Airlines came available. He has been with Northwest (now Delta) since 2007 and flown the DC-9 and Airbus A320. During his aviation career Steve has flown nearly 250 hours in the Twin Bonanza. His aviation experience combined with his prior experience with Skydive Kansas City makes this a homecoming of sorts that we are both excited about.

After making my first jump I knew that I was in love with skydiving. Every jump since I've walked away with a huge smile on my face and a deeper love for the sport. If you've never been skydiving then your missing out on one of the greatest experiences of your life.
